Music Program
Students choirs provide music each day at Mass.

Amid the noise and competing ringtones of modern society, there is certainly a more coveted and better thing: Silence.  The great mystery of God, which surpasses all words, summons us to silence as we ponder the infinite that is His realm. And in that stillness, the soul is receptive to hear the call that prompts us to inward peace and outward love.  Then, out of love, we raise our voices in singing the beautiful proclamation - echoing back the love that God has shown his creation when he sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to live and love with us, even unto death.

Music, the ancient treasure of the church, is brought alive and cherished at the Atonement Academy.

Rather than being frozen in time, the ancient treasure of the church is brought alive and cherished at the Atonement Academy. Children are taught music from the early grades all the way through High School.  Students who show a liking to music are encouraged to join the Upper School Honors Choir, which has done very well in competitions with other choral ensembles from all over the state of Texas. The study of choral music also fosters lifelong virtues such as friendship, solidarity, and loyalty.

"Anyone who has heard this, knows that the faith is true."
Music can help in teaching lifelong virtues such as friendship and teamwork.

So said Pope Benedict XVI (then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) to the Lutheran Bishop Hanselmann after the final note of the Bach concert conducted by Leonard Bernstein in Munich, following the sudden death of Karl Richter.  Music can have an extraordinary impact on our hearts and our minds.  It has played a powerful part in the history of great societies.  Make it a part of your child's life!  If you are considering Catholic Education for your child, consider what a rich treasure the study of Sacred Music can be for your child.

Every Atonement scholar takes a full credit course in choral music every year. Each student is assigned to one of the academy's ten choirs. Choirs in Grades 3 through 12 take turns singing at the daily school Mass. Every choir performs at least twice yearly, in some cases more frequently. Our most proficient choirs are competitive state-wide. Every student is expected to participate fully in the music program.
