| Often, it can be difficult for a parent to decide where to send their children to
school. However, if a parent is looking for a solid education in a safe and faith filled
environment, then the reasons for choosing The Atonement Academy are simple and
straightforward: 1. Catholic common life: Catholic values are at the heart of
our school, and govern all aspects of our instruction and philosophy. That is why the
children enrolled at The Atonement Academy attend Mass every day and receive religious
instruction on a daily basis. The Atonement Academy is the parish school of Our Lady of
the Atonement Catholic Church. It opened its doors on August 15, 1994, and includes grades
Pre-Kindergarten through 8th.
From our foundation it has been our intention to create a learning environment which is
rooted in the Gospel. We believe that in nurturing the intellectual faculties of every
child in this regard, a capacity for sound judgment and an appreciation for a life of
faith will follow and take root in them. All of us together -- parents, teachers,
principal, pastor and students -- combine to make The Atonement Academy a unique place of
learning in a faith filled environment.
2. Curriculum: It is our goal to motivate and enliven every child who attends
our school. Just ask any of our students -- we succeed at making learning enjoyable and
interesting! The Atonement Academy offers a solid academic
curriculum of Mathematics, Science, Phonics-based Language Arts and Social Studies, as
well as daily instruction in our Catholic faith. We also offer special subjects of
Spanish, Geography, Computer Science and Sacred Music. The children are encouraged to
discover the wonders of literature through the Accelerated Reading Program, and ample time
is allotted for recreation and Physical Education, giving the children a well-balanced
school day from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Each and every child is challenged to excel
academically and grow spiritually. Great care is given by our principal and all the
teachers in providing every child with quality, individualized attention. The students
have access to specialized tutoring when necessary.
3. Affordability: The Atonement Academy's tuition for Pre-Kindergarten is
$335
per month, for Kindergarten, tuition is $275 per month, and for grades
1-8, the tuition is $235 per month, for ten months (registration and
textbook fees are separate). Based on a survey of area Catholic and private schools,
The Atonement Academy is very affordable. In addition, our Scholarship Fund provides
financial assistance to needy families who are registered and active parishioners.
4. "It's personal": The Atonement Academy has made an
institutional commitment to a small student body, so that our faculty and staff can teach
each student personally, and help them to know themselves, know their true worth and
dignity, and realize their Catholic identity. The principal, teaching staff, pastor and
parents, together, enter into the vitally important task of educating our young people.
GENERAL INFORMATION
We welcome all students regardless of race, color, sex, religion or financial
background. The parish offers before and after-school care from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
to assist working parents.
Parents are encouraged to attend daily Mass with the students, and join their children
for lunch when able. Parents are involved in offering their talents in making The
Atonement Academy the shining light in Catholic education in Northwest San Antonio. We are
located in a quiet, wooded neighborhood, on the Northside of Loop 1604 from UTSA.
